The Somogyi Wine Cellar is located at the bottom of the Calvary Hill, next to the northern city walls and the tunnel. It was Sándor Dévényi who began to deal with this 19th century cellar, he designed three wagon-roofs protruding from the hill, though these were not waterproof. To be able to use the wagon-roofs we designed a steel structured pergola above them that protects the building from the rain and also refers to the function of the cellar. The effect is further enhanced by the „Bacchanalia“ sculpture of Sándor Rétfalvi. The wine cellar is also adjusted to this: the three wagon-roofs are protected by steel gates into which we „machine-gunned“ holes so in the heat of the summer they let the breeze in but provide shade. This densely pierced gate creates interesting reflections inside. In the field of interior design we worked together with Klára B. Soós (architect's text)
