The book illustrates the figure and activity of the Ticinese architect Simone Cantoni (1739-1818), designer of many works in Lombardy in the early Neoclassicist period, in that special intellectual atmosphere that made Milan a cultural focal point in 18th-century Europe. The works of Simone Cantoni include Palazzo Serbelloni and Palazzo Mellerio in Milan, many villas and churches in Brianza and the important restructuring, after a fire, of the spaces of Palazzo Ducale in Genoa. The research sheds light on worksite dynamics, relationships with contemporaries, and reveals previously unpublished drawings held in private collections.
